Anchor Coffee started in 2005 as a small drive-thru coffee chain next to a gasoline stand in the outskirts of Kesennuma. They take the utmost care in making their specialty coffees, strictly choosing the coffee beans from where they are produced (down to even choosing the specific farm), and managing the process of making the coffee step by step, from the roasting temperature to the timing of grinding the beans and brewing the espresso. Its original baked donuts are also popular. There are currently 8 stores in the Tohoku region. In April 2015, it opened “Mother Port”, a cafe that serves as a “homeport” for the local residents and visitors. Just as the name represents, the cafe is loved by many in Kesennuma everyday.
